Our First Bus Ride tells the story of Molly and Monica, two best friends who make history when they join Minnesota’s first school integration program, the Hale-Field pairing of 1971. Through their eyes, readers experience the excitement, questions, and courage of children taking the first steps toward equality in education. Inspired by true events, this beautifully illustrated book celebrates friendship, change, and the importance of learning together. Our First Bus Ride reminds readers—young and old—that history is made not only by laws and protests, but also by the everyday bravery of kids with open hearts.
